We at Planet Longhorn know the secrets of Texas. All of them. And this is its greatest one: The suffocating heat is just a way to make the awesomest thing ever even awesomer. Texas provides us with cool, flowing rivers full of awesomeness (and water) that quickly fill with everyone who is worth being friends with. What could have been a boring normal summer is instead a summer full of the words that fill every person in Austin with immeasurable joy: THE RIVER!

Planet Longhorn wants you to know why we Texans love the heat. It’s not just because we’re crazy. Well some of the hobos are. But we’re pretty sure we’re not. Come float the river with all the awesome people you’ll be spending your semester with! It’s hard to explain what exactly makes floating the river so fun but trust us, you will NOT be sorry.

$25 gets you transportation to the river and back, a tube, and SOME beer (if you are of age). BYO if you plan on making a more dedicated attack against sobriety. We’ll be back by 7 and are planning an afterparty as well!

-Friday August 21, from 1-2 PM at the Texas Union Patio.
-Saturday, August 22, from 1-2:30 PM at the Texas Union Patio.

Oh and for everyone asking what you “do” on the river: wade. chat. drink. look at people who have bad tattoos. love your life.

Things to bring: Sunscreen, drinks if you want, an ID if you are drinking. Towel is kind of optional, you dry pretty quickly when it’s 238423520983209683 degrees outside.

Let’s get this semester started right… by celebrating with approximately 14,000 pounds of meat (possible exaggeration) and loads of country dancing! Come meet each other, meet some local Texas students, make some friends, get confused by other people’s accents, and of course, stare in amazement at people actually dressed like cowboys at the Rodeo. What is a “Midnight Rodeo” you ask? … oh you will see, my friend!

As a special perk, you get to meet the whole Planet Longhorn crew! Luckily, the Planet Longhorn crew specializes in answering any questions you might still have about housing, what to do in Austin, why we talk so slowly, metric system conversions (just kidding don’t ask me about that…), or anything really!

We will be holding collection times so that you can pay up for the BBQ (so we don’t go broke in the process of buying insane amounts of meat). The times are listed below:

August 18th, 12-1 PM: Texas Union Theatre (after Exchange Orientation), 1-2 PM: Texas Union Patio
August 19th, 1-2 PM: Texas Union Patio (location given in map on this page)

Location: Texas Union Patio…right on campus (just outside the Wendy’s in the Texas Union) where we have collection times. Because it’s on campus, there won’t be any alcohol at the dinner, but don’t worry- you’ll get your fill afterwards!
