Classes and Professors- The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Postby dana » Tue Jul 14, 2009 11:04 pm

Hey guys,

This topic is open to all American UT students and all past, current, and incoming exchange students. Please share what you have taken, what you are looking for, or what you took while on exchange...the ones that were good, those you didn't like and why. You can describe the course load or what classes were actually interesting. Hopefully we can all help each other out so that everyone can find a way to balance school work with... well.. social activi...parties. ;)

Two Australian exchange students from fall 2007 have recommended Human Sexuality to me. I've been told that it is an easy and interesting class. I think it's a big lecture class! Anyway, I'm signed up for it this coming fall so I guess I'll find out in time...

I've also heard great things about the Human Sexuality course. Apparently last year it was voted by the students that is was the best, most favorite course at UT.

If any of y'all are really worried about those bad professors for about 5 or 10 bucks, you can get a membership to pickaprof...which is a site where before you sign up for a class you can see how it was rated among students and how many stars the professor got. It's a great tool for trying to avoid those really tough professors.

Also, UT offers reviews of all its classes and professors for each semester. You can go to the registrar page from the main website, and under "Services for Students" section you should find the Course Instructor Surveys. Its a good free tool to compare and review classes and professors across several semesters.

As for cool classes at UT, I really enjoyed my anthropology course "Cultures in Contact" and my history course "The Cuban Revolution and the US". They both chronicle a lot of uniquely American history, and really teach you a bunch about the colonization of the Americas and the cuban revolution respectively. I think it would be pretty sweet as an exchange student to take one of them.
